Choosing glass for the job
Glass is not one product. Tempered glass is strong and breaks safely. Laminated glass stays in the frame when broken, which makes it the basis of security, impact and overhead glazing. Low-E insulated glass controls heat. Film improves existing glass without replacing it. The right choice depends on what the glass needs to do in that opening.
Code requirements and upgrades
Some glass choices are required by code: safety glazing in doors and hazardous locations, impact glazing in wind-borne debris regions, and energy performance when glass is replaced. Others are upgrades an owner chooses, such as laminated glass or film after repeated break-ins. We explain which is which.

Safety, Security & Energy Glass questions
Do not see your question? Call and talk to a glazing specialist.
What glass stops break-ins best?
Laminated glass and security glazing resist forced entry far better than tempered glass. Film helps on existing glass.
Is low-E glass required?
Energy codes set limits that in practice require low-E insulated glass for most new and replacement glazing.
Do you install bullet-resistant glass?
Yes, as complete rated assemblies with rated frames.
