Aluminum Storefront Doors

The entrance door is the hardest-working part of any storefront. We install and replace aluminum storefront doors with the frames, closers, pivots and locks that keep them working and secure.

Types of aluminum storefront doors

Aluminum storefront doors are categorized by the width of their stiles, the vertical frame members. Narrow stile doors have a slim profile and suit most retail entrances. Medium stile doors are a step up in strength. Wide stile doors are the most durable and are used where doors take heavy abuse, such as schools, transit and high-traffic public buildings. All can be single or pairs, with transoms and sidelites.

Hanging options

  • Offset pivots, the most common on storefront doors, with top and bottom pivots set back from the edge.
  • Center pivots, used with floor closers for a cleaner look.
  • Butt hinges, used on some medium and wide stile doors.
  • Continuous hinges, which spread the load along the full height and hold up well on heavy-traffic doors.

When to replace instead of repair

A door that is bent, has cracked corner welds or loose corners, or has been repaired so many times that hardware no longer mounts securely is usually better replaced. A new door can often be hung in the existing frame if the frame is sound, which keeps the cost down.

Hardware and code

Entrance doors must meet accessibility requirements for opening force, closing speed, threshold height and hardware type, and exit doors need code-compliant egress hardware. We set up every door to meet those requirements and choose hardware suited to the traffic it will see.
